Finally Xiaomi launched its next big smartphone in Indian market, the MiMax2.
On the day Chinese company Xiaomi launched the Mi Max 2 in India, calling it a flagship device despite its mainstream hardware, it is getting some flak from its sizeable community of fans. On the Facebook page of Xiaomi's India division, where many of its fans gather, there were people after people asking the company where was the Mi 6. The Mi 6, which is a flagship Xiaomi phone comparable to other high-end devices right now, has been only launched in China.
The contrast between the Mi Max 2 and the Mi 6 is big. Literally. The Mi Max 2 is a large phone meant for users who still use a tablet to make phone calls. It has a screen size of 6.44 inches and it weighs over 210 grams. The phone uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, has 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, a 12-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, a screen resolution of 1080P and a rather large battery of 5300 mAh.
These are strictly mainstream hardware specs for a phone that belongs to the Mi series. In fact, it seems closer to the Redmi phones than a phone like the Mi 6, something that seemed to weigh heavily on the minds of Xiaomi fans as they commented on the launch announcement of the Mi Max 2. In comparison to the Mi Max 2, the Mi 6 sports a more premium design along with dimensions that make it look like a phone and not a tablet that has been shrunk. The Mi 6 also comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, which is the fastest you can get in an Android phone, as well as a dual-camera set up on the rear.
In India, the Mi Max 2 will go on sale from July 27 for Rs 16,999. As it happens with Xiaomi devices, the Mi Max 2 will be available in limited quantities, at least initially. For the phone, Xiaomi has also tied up with Jio and in case you also get a Jio SIM with the it you will get free 100GB 4G data for limited time. Also, Xiaomi said that the phone will be available on its own Mi online store from July 20. The early sale at the Mi store is possibly an attempt by Xiaomi to bolster its own online store ahead of the services like Flipkart and Amazon India, with which Xiaomi often partners to sell its phones.
